What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a huge sales event held the day after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November). It's often considered the first day of the Christmas shopping season and is well known for offering some of the year's best discounts.
There are two different beliefs about why we call it ‘Black Friday.’ Many believe the term was first used to refer to retailers being “in the black” (turning a profit) after an influx of shoppers the day after Thanksgiving. Others believe it was first coined in Philadelphia to refer to the heavy traffic that descended on the city each year to watch a locally-held Army-Navy football game (which was always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving). Whatever the reason, Black Friday has since become one of the year's busiest sales events. Products tend to sell out quickly, so save the date (and keep that wishlist ready).

What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday (the Monday after Black Friday) is traditionally a 24-hour online shopping event and is often seen as an extension of the limited-time discounts seen on Black Friday.
Wondering why it’s called Cyber Monday? It’s believed the term ‘Cyber Monday’ was first used during the infancy of the internet age (the early 2000s) and originated as a way to persuade people to shop online. Thanks to the fantastic Cyber Week sales online retailers offered, Cyber Monday quickly became a much-anticipated date each year.
This year, Cyber Monday falls on Monday, 28 November 2022.
Is Cyber Monday only online?
While Cyber Monday was initially created to persuade shoppers to visit their favourite online stores for deals and discounts, today, it’s viewed as more of an extension to Black Friday.
Discounts take place in-store and online, so you'll be able to pick up great bargains whether you visit a store in person or would rather shop from the comfort of your own home.
Black Friday vs Cyber Monday: what's the difference?
There are a few traditional differences between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The first involves the type of products sold. In the past, Black Friday has mainly been for more expensive items, like large electronics, while Cyber Monday has focused on discounts for smaller items, like clothes.
Alongside this, Black Friday traditionally took place in-store, while Cyber Monday was an online sales event.
