Get the balance right every time

Start with these proportions, taste as you go and find your favorite balance.

Long and refreshing

1 part White Rum Alternative to 2 parts mixer. Try cola, ginger ale or pineapple juice. Add fresh lime and adjust the mixer to taste.

Bright and citrusy

2.5 parts White Rum Alternative to 1 part lime juice to 1 part white sugar syrup (1:1). The starting point for a Daiquiri. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled glass.

Fresh and minty

2.5 parts White Rum Alternative to 1 part lime juice to 0.5 part syrup to 1 part soda. Add mint and ice for a Mojito. Stir gently to keep the bubbles lively.

Mixer pairings

What goes with White Rum Alternative

  • Soda water: a light, refreshing option. Add fresh lime and mint for a Mojito-inspired pour.
  • Cola: an easy classic with a squeeze of lime and plenty of ice.
  • Pineapple juice: tropical sweetness that complements the cane and coconut notes. Finish with lime.
  • Coconut water: a lighter tropical pairing. Try fresh pineapple and a mint sprig.
  • Ginger ale: gentle spice and a little sweetness. Add a lime wedge.
  • Grapefruit soda: bright citrus with a bittersweet edge. Garnish with pink grapefruit.

Finishing touches

A little garnish goes a long way

Give mint a gentle slap between your palms to release its aroma before adding it to a Mojito. Twist lime zest over a Daiquiri, or finish a tropical serve with fresh pineapple. Use plenty of fresh ice and chilled mixers, and avoid crushing mint too hard, which can make it taste bitter.

Combine 30 fl oz White Rum Alternative, 12 fl oz fresh lime juice and 6 fl oz white sugar syrup (1:1) in a large pitcher and chill. Just before serving, gently press 8–10 mint leaves in each of 12 glasses, add ice and divide the chilled mix between them. Top each with 1 fl oz soda and garnish with lime and mint.

Hosting tip: use a pitcher that holds at least 2 US quarts for the base. Keep the mint, ice and soda in the glasses so each serve stays fresh and lively.
